Lactation Consultant: The WOMB Guelph
What does a lactation consultant do?
A lactation consultant is a healthcare professional specialized in supporting families with breastfeeding and chestfeeding. They are trained to address a wide range of concerns, from latch difficulties and milk supply issues to managing pain, positioning, and feeding challenges. Certified lactation consultants, such as International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs), have extensive education and clinical experience to provide evidence-based guidance. They work closely with families to create personalized feeding plans, helping you meet your goals while ensuring the health and well-being of both you and your baby. Whether you're navigating the early days of feeding or facing challenges later on, a lactation consultant is your trusted partner in achieving a successful and fulfilling breastfeeding experience.
Is a lactation consultant covered by OHIP?
Lactation consultant services are generally not covered by OHIP, but there are options to support families in their breastfeeding journey. While hospitals and public health units may offer free or low-cost breastfeeding support, these services are often limited in availability and time. Private lactation consultants, like [Your Business Name], provide personalized, in-depth care tailored to your specific needs, offering the convenience of home visits or virtual consultations. Though private services are not covered by OHIP, many extended health insurance plans include lactation support, so check with your provider for possible reimbursement. Choosing a private lactation consultant ensures you receive the expert guidance and dedicated support you deserve during this important time.

I’m an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), nurse, and proud mama of two. Since the beginning of my nursing career I have had a passion in caring for mothers and their babies. While working in primary health care I noticed a growing need for breastfeeding education among expecting, new, and experienced mothers. This is where my drive to empower mothers began.
I aspire to help mothers gain the confidence to breastfeed comfortably and enjoyably. When breastfeeding my son and daughter, I was able to see first hand how fulfilling, but at times difficult this experience can be. It wasn’t until I had connected with a Lactation Consultant when breastfeeding my son, that I was truly able to enjoy this experience and feel like a confident mother. While breastfeeding my daughter I came across many breastfeeding challenges including lip and tongue tie. I saw how powerful it was to have the breastfeeding knowledge I was certified in to help me overcome my own breastfeeding difficulties.
Let’s be honest breastfeeding can be tricky and I’m here to give you the support and confidence to OWN it.Just like every baby deserves the best nutrition and care from day one. Every mother deserves the best support and education to help reach her breastfeeding and parenting goals. I can’t wait to help you succeed in reaching your goals!
